Statement of Faith

Bethel Baptist Church is proud of it’s Baptist Doctrine, Faith, and Heritage.  We believe in the preservation of God’s Word in the King James Bible for the English speaking people, in evangelism both at home and abroad, and in promoting a real life relationship with our Saviour Jesus Christ.  This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our faith.  The Bible itself, is the sole authority for faith, doctrine, and practice for all that we believe.  We do believe, however, that this statement of faith accurately represents the teaching of the Bible.

We believe the Holy scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God.  The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed.  The sixty six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to man and therefore must be the sole authority for faith, doctrine, and practice.  We believe that God has preserved His Word without contradiction or error in the King James Version for the English speaking people.  The King James Version shall be the official and only translation used by the church in the pulpit, the classroom, and any church sponsored activity. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Ps 12:6,7)

We believe that there is one and only one true living God; that He is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Immutable, and infinitely Holy.  We believe He is existent eternally in three persons, which is the Triune Godhead the makes up the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  They are each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and each have the same attributes and perfection. (Matt 28:19-20; Jn 14:10,26; I Jn 5:7)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, eternal in nature and existence. We believe that He became man without ceasing to be God, and that He is the Saviour whom God sent into the world to redeem mankind (Jn 1:1-34).  We believe He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might take on fleshly form and reveal God to sinful men.  We believe He accomplished our redemption by Himself through His death on the Cross.  His death was a representative, vicarious, and substitutionary sacrifice.  We believe His blood is the only atonement for the sins of all mankind and that it is sufficient to wash away the sins of every person.  We believe that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. We believe that Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, Advocate, and Great High Priest.  We believe that there will be a personal and visible return of Jesus Christ, the same way He left this earth and entered Heaven after His resurrection. He will receive His own unto Himself, and then at an appointed time will return to earth to set up His earthly kingdom where He will rule and reign for 1,000 yrs.  This is known as the millennium.  We believe in the pre-tribulational return of Christ FOR His saints, and the pre-millennial return of Christ WITH His saints. (Jn 14:3; Acts 1:10-11; I Thess 4:14-18;Rev. 19:11;20:4-6)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is that person of the Godhead who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. We believe He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, indwelling, and sealing of all believers unto the day of redemption.  We believe He is the divine teacher who guides believers unto all truth and assists believers in understanding the Scriptures.  It is the duty of all believers to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God. (Jn 16:8-11;) We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of gifts to every believer.  God uniquely uses evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly, in order to do the work of the ministry.  We believe that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues were temporary. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism or the filling of the Holy Spirit, and that ultimate deliverance of the body from sickness or death awaits the consummation of our salvation in the resurrection, though God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing as spoken in the book of James, which involves prayer and faith. (I Cor 1:22;13:8;14:21,22)

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin the human race fell.  Man fell from his perfect state by voluntary transgression, therefore all men are born in sin, having inherited a depraved nature, utterly devoid of the holiness required by the law of God.

We believe that the only way man can be saved from eternal ruin is by truly repenting of his sin and trusting in the work of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, and receiving Him as personal Saviour.  Such an experience constitutes the new birth, whereby the individual is transformed or regenerated, by the Spirit of God, and becomes God’s true child.  This gift of salvation is wholly by the grace of God and cannot be obtained by any good works or deeds of men. (Eph 28-9; Jn 3:16;Tit 3:5)

We believe that the saved of God, the redeemed, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.  We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation, through the testimony of God’s Word, however, scripture clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty to sin. (Jn 10:27-30; Gal 5:13)

We believe the local church to be a local visible body of baptized believers voluntarily assembled together for the purpose of carrying out the great commission as mandated in scripture (Mt 28;18-20).  The only scriptural offices of the church are Bishops, or Pastors, and deacons, whose qualifications are listed and defined in the epistiles of Timothy and Titus. We believe that Christ started the local church at the baptism of John.  We believe Christ promised the church Divine perpetuity.  We believe the local church, subjecting itself to the authority of the Holy Scriptures and the authority of Jesus Christ, it’s Chief Shepherd, and then the authority of Pastor, or Bishop, as its undershepherd, is autonomous, independent, and democratic in it’s government. (Mt 16:16-18;18:15-18;I Tim 3:15)

We believe on the personality of Satan; in his power and kingdom; in his wiles; and in his judgment at the cross and his eternal destruction in Hell.  He is the open and declared enemy of God and man, and shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire. ( Job 1:6-7; Is 14:12-17; Rev 20:10)

We believe that God created the universe in six literal 24 hour periods.  We reject Evolution, the gap theory, the day age theory, and theistic evolution as unscriptural theories of origin. ( Gen 1-2;Ex 20:11; Rom 5:12)

We believe Heaven is a place of beauty and bliss, wherein dwelleth righteousness, where God will dwell with His people forever. (2 Cor 12:2-4; Rev 21:22)

We believe Hell is a place of ceaseless torment, characterized by fire and brimstone, where all who have rejected God’s love will suffer forever. (Luke 16:19-31; Jn 1:12)
